By and large, this is the usual “off the beaten track” stuff (extreme sports, everyday heroes, niche pursuits) of celebrity travelogues from the moment they set out from the Peaks, but between the mining, sheep-shearing, and rambling, it’s lively enough. This opener (episode two follows tomorrow) tracks a man run over by a lorry, a girl whose scooter has crashed and an elderly man awaiting complex, highly risky surgery.ĭan Walker accompanies old pal Helen Skelton on a four-part tour of the Pennines from Walker’s Sheffield home to Skelton’s house in Cumbria. This breathless series follows the work of London’s trauma teams, from air ambulances to paramedics and hospitals. The budget is £10,000, the timescale a mere three days, and it all proves too much for one of the hopefuls as this intensely stressful series continues. Getting married at a farmyard festival sounds like a stretch, especially when the animals get involved. If that sounds brutal, some of the verdicts are even more so. Much as standards continue to climb on the parent show, it is hard to imagine even the most accomplished amateur pulling off tonight’s climactic challenge (after essaying an already testing plated dessert): a showpiece hanging from the ceiling and covered with petit-fours. Directed by Motherland co-creator Holly Walsh, it’s gleefully broad and raucously entertaining. With few options left, they must do the unthinkable and venture outside. Subsisting on chocolate penises and shampooing with toilet cleaner, they have imprisoned the stripper lest he be the last man alive (crab measles having killed males in particular), and one of them is stricken with a leg injury. Nine weeks later, society has broken down entirely and the hen party has turned feral, their isolation bringing to the surface all manner of suppressed resentments. Until, that is, news reports warn of the rapid spread of “crab measles”.
When Zara (Lucie Shorthouse) is whisked off in a hot pink rental car to a remote farmhouse in Wales by her mother (Elizabeth Berrington) and friends (Callie Cooke, Lauren O’Rourke and Kate O’Flynn), the stage is set for a familiar combination of shots, Girls Aloud and a male stripper (Ben McGregor). Back in 2016, Jim Field Smith and George Kay brought horror and comedy to a stag do gone wrong in Stag Caroline Moran does something similar for the hen party in new six-parter Henpocalypse!, only with the stakes raised exponentially higher.
